More to come....

I will be posting more of these cemetery's as I find them. It is my goal to raise awareness in the Clinton County, NY area to our residents to let them know that these places DO exist and it is our job to make sure they are kept up to par for future generations. This is our past, it is our history and for some long lost families. Join with The Broken Stones Project in creating awareness for these cemetery's that time has forgotten.

Creek Road Cemetery.......

These photo's were taken at a cemetery on Creek Road in the Hamlet of Perry's Mills of Champlain, NY. The cemetery itself is taken care of by neighbors or the town however off to the sides and back of this little cemetery I found these stones discarded. Many of these stones have names on them and it saddens me that for whatever reason they were discarded like trash on the banks on the Great Chazy River.

My question is, where do these stones belong? Who were these people and why has their memory been forgotten? It is a shame that these stones are in such disarray and whomever owns this plot needs to come figure out where these stones belong and replace them.

If you are interested in speaking with the town and asking them why this has happened here is their address and phone number.

Stetson Road Plot......

This little plot I call the Stetson Road plot. It is located on Stetson Road outside Rouses Point and Champlain, NY. There are about 12 stones from what I could tell and this too is in the middle of a corn field. The stones can not really be read or partially read. There is no information on who is affiliated with it.

North Farm Road Plot.....

I happened upon this little plot in the middle of a corn field not far from Minkler Road cemetery outside of Champlain, NY. The stones are not at all legible to read and each is still standing but broken. I assume this is some sort of early settler plot but otherwise there is no information on it.

Minkler Rd. Cemetery......

Here are a few photo's from what I am calling the Minkler Rd. cemetery. I am uncertain of it's real name as there is nothing stating it. This cemetery is usually hidden by corn fields most of the year. It is off Route 9 outside of Champlain, NY.

Most of the stones are broken and there does not seem to be anyone in the area that knows who takes care of it or what church if any it is affiliated as this cemetery stands by itself with no even a house anywhere near it.

Blow Cemetery......what a mess.

Welcome to the Broken Stones Project Blog page. I started this page as a way to remember and maybe even draw some attention to cemeteries that have long been forgotten. It is my hope that these images and stories go viral and people from every location in this country and even world realize that places like this do exist and it is our job to maintain them and keep them beautiful.

These two photo's come from a cemetery that you would never even know existed if you did not trek through  the woods to find it. It is called, The Blow Cemetery and it is located off Joe Wood Rd. in Altona, NY. There is a State issued sign that states this cemetery was established in the 1850's, and is the resting place of the settlers of Altona however, that is about it. There is no marked path to access it.

There is not a single stone standing in this little plot on top of a small hill in a very wooded and unkempt area. From what I have found only a handful of stones have any writing on the and most you can not read at all. It does seem that these settlers had the last name of Wood from the stones that I could read. It seems there may be at least 15 - 20 stones in total and I am confused as to who owns this plot and why they have not taken care of it.

If you are interested in contacting the Town Offices of Altona to ask them why this plot has been left in such disarray. Here is there address.
